Frequently asked questions.
Everything you want to know about Yupe, clearly arranged in one place. Is your question not listed? Please feel free to contact us.
Why Yupe
I eat pretty healthy. Do I need this then?
Probably yes, and that's not because of how you eat.
Healthy eating is about averages. Your body works on a daily basis. And for each of the five nutrients in Yupe, there is a structural gap in the Netherlands.
You produce virtually no Vitamin D from October to April, because the sun is too low. And it's hardly present in food, so eating better won't solve that.
Omega-3 DHA comes from algae. Fish only contain it because fish eat algae, and most of the fish on the shelf are farmed fish with different feed, meaning much less of that original content remains. We skip that detour and get it directly from the source.
Vitamin B12 is found almost exclusively in animal products. If you eat less meat and dairy, your intake will decrease accordingly. And the older you get, the less well you absorb it.
You lose Magnesium faster than you think: with stress, intensive exercise, and alcohol. Precisely the things that all three come up in a busy week.
You cannot store Vitamin C. What you don't get today, you don't add to tomorrow. And it is largely lost when heated and stored for a long time.
Yupe does not replace your nutrition. It covers the gap between what should be there and what actually enters your body in a normal week.
Why only five nutrients and not fifty?
Because five well-chosen nutrients do more than fifty names listed just to fill the label.
Only a limited amount fits into one daily serving. Anyone who crams fifty ingredients into it will inevitably end up with dosages that are too low to make a difference. The label looks complete, but the portion is spread thin.
We chose five nutrients that are most often deficient in the Netherlands, each in a dose that matters and in a form that the body absorbs well: 450 mg vitamin C, 25 µg vitamin D3, 10 µg vitamin B12, 100 mg magnesium, and 400 mg omega-3 DHA.
Fewer names on the label, more of what matters.
Are the ingredients scientifically proven?
Yes, and that's not a marketing slogan but a legal standard.
In the European Union, you may only mention a health effect for a nutrient if that effect has been assessed by EFSA, the European Food Safety Authority, and is included in the official European claims register. This applies to every nutrient in Yupe.
So we haven't added anything because it sounds good on a label or because it's fashionable. Everything it contains has an assessed and approved effect, in a form that the body absorbs well and in a dosage that matters.
What makes Yupe different from the rest?
Three things, all to check on the label. The forms: magnesium bisglycinate instead of oxide, methylcobalamin instead of cyanocobalamin, vitamin D3 from lichen. The dosage: 400 mg DHA per day, no leftover item at the bottom of the list. And the format: one sachet per day, portable, without jars and without washing up.
The Doubt
I don't notice any difference. Is it even working, then?
Give it a month and pay attention to the right things.
Yupe won't give you a buzz. If that's what you're looking for, then you're looking for caffeine. Nutrients work differently: they replenish what was structurally lacking, and that takes weeks, not hours.
What people often notice after a few weeks is that the mid-afternoon slump is less severe and that they feel sharper. Vitamin C, vitamin B12, and magnesium contribute to normal energy metabolism and to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue. Vitamin B12 and magnesium contribute to normal psychological function, and DHA contributes to the maintenance of normal brain function.
If you genuinely notice nothing after a month, it usually means there was little lacking. That's also a good outcome. If you want it in black and white, have your vitamin D and B12 levels checked by your GP.
Aren't supplements just nonsense?
If you get everything from your diet, you don't need them. It's that simple.
The point is that for a few nutrients in the Netherlands, this systematically doesn't work. For half the year, you barely produce any Vitamin D here. And DHA comes from algae, where the detour via fish is becoming less and less effective now that almost all fish is farmed.
What is nonsense, however: fifty ingredients in dosages that do nothing, and promises about how you're going to feel tomorrow. We only use nutrients whose effects have been scientifically evaluated and approved in the EU. That is precisely why there are five ingredients, not fifty.
Will I get scales from it?
No. Our omega-3 is derived from microalgae, not fish, and the softgel only dissolves in your stomach. Take it with a meal, and you won't notice a thing.
Why sachets and capsules
Why not powder? Isn't that easier?
Omega-3 and oxygen don't mix. DHA is polyunsaturated and oxidizes on contact with air and light. A powder container is opened thirty times. Our DHA is in a softgel: one dose, airtight, until you take it.
Powder must be palatable. Concentrated nutrients don't taste good, so flavorings, sweeteners, and fillers are added. Look at a powder label to see what's listed after the active ingredients. With us, there's nothing.
A scoop is not a dosage. Tightly packed or loose can differ by a quarter. A capsule contains the exact same amount every day.
And it has to fit into your life. A container, a scoop, water, and washing up is something you do at home on a quiet morning. Not in the office, not on the train. A sachet goes in your pocket.
Four capsules and a softgel, isn't that a lot?
You can swallow them all at once with a sip of water during your meal. More importantly, consider the alternative: if you want to get these nutrients in these dosages, you'd be counting just as many pills on a normal morning, but from four or five different containers.
We haven't created more, we've simply put them together.
Why capsules and not tablets?
A tablet is compressed under high pressure and therefore requires binders, pressing agents, and usually a coating. Substances that contribute nothing but are included. Our capsules have a vegetable shell and require nothing else.
Why is the omega-3 separate in a softgel?
Because DHA is an oil and the rest is not. You can press oil and powder together, but then you need carriers and emulsifiers. We keep them separate: four capsules for what is dry, one softgel for what is liquid.
I have difficulty swallowing. Can I open the capsules?
Preferably not. The capsule protects the contents, and the softgel is specifically designed to keep the oil sealed until it reaches your stomach. Take them one by one with a good gulp of water, leaning slightly forward rather than with your head tilted back. If you really can't manage, please email us, and we'll help you find a solution.
What's included
What exactly is in it?
Per daily dose, i.e. per sachet of four capsules and one softgel:
- Vitamin C — Calcium ascorbate (450 mg)
- Vitamin D3 — From lichen (25 µg / 1,000 IU)
- Vitamin B12 — Methylcobalamin (10 µg)
- Magnesium — Bisglycinate (100 mg)
- Omega-3 DHA — From microalgae Schizochytrium sp. (400 mg)
- Vitamin E — D-alpha-tocopherol (10 mg)
Vitamin E is included as a supporting antioxidant and, among other things, protects the algae oil from oxidation.
No proprietary blend where you are not allowed to know how much of what is in it. Every substance is listed with its name, form, and quantity.
Why are E-numbers on the label?
Because an E-number only means that a substance has been assessed and approved in the EU. It says nothing about whether something is natural or synthetic.
For us, it's about two things. E464 is hydroxypropylmethylcellulose, which is the plant-based capsule shell itself, made from plant fibre. And E422 is glycerine, which keeps the softgel flexible. These are not additives to the formula; they are the packaging of the formula.
Is Yupe vegan?
Completely. The vitamin D3 comes from lichen instead of sheep's wool, the DHA from microalgae instead of fish, and the capsule shell is plant-based. Yupe is also halal and kosher certified.
This is not only relevant for vegans: algae are the source from which fish themselves get their DHA. We skip the intermediate step, and with it the concerns about heavy metals and ocean pollution associated with fish oil.
Does it contain allergens?
Yupe contains no ingredients derived from crustaceans, eggs, fish, peanuts, soy, milk, nuts, celery, mustard, sesame, lupine or molluscs. The product may contain traces of gluten.
Where is Yupe made?
In Goes, in Zeeland. Our production facility is located in the Netherlands, under Dutch supervision, a mere half-hour drive away. Not in a factory on the other side of the world that we've never even seen from the inside.
The production site meets the highest industry standards and holds GMP and HACCP certification.
Is Yupe being tested?
Yes. All our products are tested by independent laboratories, separate from our own production. So, we do not inspect ourselves.
Why is there no ... in it
Why is there no iron in it?
Because iron doesn't belong in a supplement that everyone takes daily. Men and post-menopausal women usually don't need it, and too much iron is not harmless. If you suspect a deficiency, have it checked by your doctor and supplement specifically.
Why is there no folic acid in it?
Folic acid is especially important for those planning a pregnancy and during the first ten weeks of pregnancy, in a dosage tailored for this purpose. This requires a pregnancy supplement, not just a small amount of folic acid in a daily basic supplement.
Why is there no Vitamin A in it?
Deliberately omitted. Vitamin A in the form of retinol is the substance that supplements are warned against during pregnancy. By not adding it, Yupe can be used by a larger group of people without concerns.
What Yupe Does
What does Yupe contribute to?
Vitamin C, vitamin B12 and magnesium contribute to normal energy metabolism and to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue. Vitamin C and vitamin D contribute to the normal functioning of the immune system. Vitamin B12 and magnesium contribute to the normal functioning of the nervous system and to normal psychological function. Magnesium contributes to the maintenance of normal bones and to normal muscle function. DHA contributes to the maintenance of normal brain function and normal vision, with a daily intake of 250 mg DHA.
All these effects have been assessed by EFSA and included in the European claims register.
How quickly will I notice the effects?
Honestly: not tomorrow. And any brand that promises you otherwise is selling you something other than a supplement.
Nutrients supplement what is structurally missing, and that takes time. Some people notice a difference after a few weeks, others don't notice anything special, and that's okay too. It's about what's happening inside.
That's why you get thirty days to try it out at your leisure. If you don't like it, you'll get your money back, even if you've already opened the box and used the product.
Can I combine Yupe with other supplements?
You can, but the honest question is whether it's still necessary.
Daily Essentials was designed as your complete daily foundation: the five nutrients most often deficient in the Netherlands, each in a meaningful dosage. If you also take separate vitamin D, magnesium, or omega-3, you're probably double-dosing. Many customers clear out a few jars after a month.
So, look at your total intake and consult your GP or pharmacist if in doubt.
Can I ingest too much?
Not with one sachet per day. All dosages remain within European safety limits, even if you continue to eat normally. However, do not take more than one sachet per day, and take into account any individual supplements you may be using.
Price
Can't I buy those nutrients separately, cheaper?
It won't get any cheaper. More expensive, to begin with, it will.
You'll need five jars, and not the cheapest of each: magnesium in bisglycinate form, B12 as methylcobalamin, vitamin D3 from lichen, buffered vitamin C, and 400 mg of algal DHA per day. With a good Dutch brand, you'd easily spend over €100 in one go.
Per month, that's roughly what Yupe costs. We're upfront about that. The difference is you'll have five jars on your counter, five expiration dates, five moments when one runs out, and you'll have had to check five labels to make sure you got the highly absorbable form.
And your omega-3 will be in a jar that you open thirty times, while DHA oxidizes on contact with air. With us, it's in a softgel that remains airtight until you take it.
Isn't Yupe expensive?
No. For €39.99 per month on a subscription, you get five nutrients in the most absorbable forms available, in dosages that matter. That's about the same amount you'd spend if you bought the same quality separately, but without five jars.
We sell the best quality available on the market at the fairest price we can charge. Not the cheapest, because then we would have had to purchase different raw materials. But the best value for what goes into it. And with every box, four women and children benefit through Vitamin Angels.
Why does Yupe cost more than a multivitamin from a drugstore?
Because it's not a multivitamin from the drugstore. That's a different category.
Take magnesium, for example. A budget multivitamin almost always contains magnesium oxide, the cheapest form available and, at the same time, the form of which your body absorbs only a fraction. The label shows an impressive number, but very little of it actually enters your bloodstream. We use bisglycinate, which is absorbed significantly better. The same applies to B12: cyanocobalamin is the cheap synthetic variant; we use methylcobalamin.
And the biggest difference: DHA is simply not present in a supermarket multivitamin. Ours contains 400 mg. So, don't compare the price on the shelf, but what you actually get for that price.
Do I get a discount if I buy more?
Yes, through the Family Pack: two boxes per month on one subscription, at a lower price per box. Furthermore, we don't work with tiered pricing or changing promotions. We prefer to keep the price low for everyone rather than having you figure out when the right time is.
Subscription
Should I get a subscription?
No. You can simply order a single box, without obligation. The subscription is cheaper because we don't have to remarket every month, and we pass that saving on to you.
Why a subscription and not just individual boxes?
Because a supplement only works if you take it, month after month. The main reason people stop is not because they don't like it, it's because the box is empty on a Tuesday and they forget to reorder. A subscription eliminates that moment.
Can I really cancel at any time?
Yes. No notice period, no reason needed, no phone call, no chat conversation where someone tries to persuade you to stay. Two clicks in your customer portal.
What is the Family pack?
Two boxes per month within one subscription, at a lower price per box. For two people in the house, or to have one at home and one at the office. It leaves as one package, and we pass on that shipping benefit.
Can I postpone or skip a delivery?
Yes, you can arrange that yourself in your customer portal. Still have stock, or going away for three weeks? Then you can postpone it.
Can I change from a one-time order to a subscription?
Certainly. You can simply start a subscription with your next order. The reverse is also possible: cancel your subscription and order individual boxes whenever you want.
When will it be debited?
A few days before your next box is shipped. You will be notified of the amount and date no later than three days in advance. Until then, you can adjust, skip, or cancel. No surprises on your statement.
What if a payment fails?
We will then try again automatically and notify you. If it continues to fail, we will pause your subscription until it is resolved.
I can't find my subscription in my account.
You likely used a different email address during checkout, which often happens when paying with PayPal or Apple Pay. Try logging in with that address. If you can't figure it out, email us your order number and we'll look it up for you.
Use
How do I take Yupe?
One sachet per day, four capsules and one softgel, preferably with a meal. The fat in your food helps with the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins.
At what time of day?
With a meal, and preferably every day at around the same time. Which meal doesn't matter, consistency does. Most people choose breakfast or lunch.
Can I take it to the office?
The size was designed for that purpose. One sachet fits in a pocket, bag, or laptop sleeve. That's precisely why it's not a tub of powder.
What if I forget a day?
Then skip that day and continue the next day. Do not catch up with a double dose.
How do I store it?
Dry and cool. Not in the bathroom, not in direct sunlight.
How long does it keep?
The expiration date is on the box and on the side of each sachet. We always ship with as much time as possible remaining. If you receive a box with a short date, please let us know and we will resolve it.
Safety, medication and pregnancy
I'm on medication. Can I still take Yupe?
If you are using medication, always consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking a supplement. This also applies if you have a medical condition or are undergoing treatment.
One thing to be aware of: magnesium can inhibit the absorption of some medications if you take them at the same time, including thyroid medication and certain antibiotics. Usually, leaving a few hours between doses is sufficient, but have your pharmacist check this.
Can children use Yupe?
No. Yupe is for adults and must not be given to infants and children under three years of age. Keep it out of their reach.
Can I use Yupe during my pregnancy?
Yes. Yupe does not contain vitamin A, the substance warned against in supplements during pregnancy, and all dosages remain well within European safety limits.
Yupe contains 400 mg DHA per daily dose. Maternal intake of DHA contributes to the normal brain and eye development of the foetus and breastfed infants. This beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 200 mg DHA in addition to the recommended daily intake of omega-3 fatty acids.
In addition, Yupe contains 25 µg of vitamin D3. Vitamin D is recommended for all pregnant women in the Netherlands because it contributes to the normal absorption of calcium and the maintenance of normal bones.
Yupe does not contain folic acid, which is advised for women planning a pregnancy and during the first ten weeks of pregnancy. Yupe is therefore not a substitute for a pregnancy supplement or for the advice of your midwife.
Ordering and delivery
What does shipping cost?
For the Netherlands and Belgium, there are no shipping costs: shipping is always free, with no minimum order value. For other EU countries, it's €7.95 per order, for the United Kingdom £9.95, and for Greece €15.95. For a subscription, this amount applies per delivery. You will see what you pay at checkout, there are no hidden fees.
When will I receive my order?
In the Netherlands: ordered before 23:00, delivered the next business day. Belgium 1 to 2 business days, Germany and France 1 to 3, the rest of Europe 2 to 4, and the United Kingdom 2 to 5 business days.
Does it fit through the letterbox?
No. The box is too tall for a standard letterbox, so your parcel will be delivered to your door. If you're not home, it will go to a neighbour or a collection point, and you'll see this reflected in your track and trace.
Who will deliver my order?
DHL within the Netherlands and most of Europe, and Evri in the UK. You will always receive a track and trace link as soon as your package is on its way.
Can I have it delivered to a different address or a pick-up point?
When checking out, you can specify a different delivery address. If you have a subscription, you can change your address yourself in your customer portal. Arranging delivery to a pick-up point can be done via the link in your track and trace email.
Which countries do you ship to?
The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, the other EU countries and the United Kingdom.
Do I pay import duties in the UK?
No. We ship DDP, so import duties and VAT have already been paid by us. You will not pay anything extra at your door.
Which payment methods do you accept?
iDEAL, credit card, Bancontact, PayPal, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. For subscriptions, we use direct debit.
My package is marked as delivered, but I don't have it.
Annoying. Packages are sometimes reported as delivered a little too early. First, check with your neighbours and in any safe place. If it's still missing after that, email us with your order number, and we'll look into it.
Can I still change or cancel my order?
We pack quickly, so once an order is in the warehouse, we can no longer change it. You can, however, adjust upcoming subscription deliveries yourself at any time in your customer portal.
Do you also sell through bol.com or Amazon?
No. Yupe is only available for purchase through yupevitamins.com and through our business partners. If you encounter Yupe elsewhere, please let us know.
Returns and warranty
Can I return Yupe?
Within 14 days of receipt, as long as the seal of the product box has not been broken. If you have already opened and tried it, you fall under our satisfaction guarantee below.
How does the no-questions-asked money-back guarantee work?
Not satisfied? Then you'll get your money back within 30 days of delivery of your first order, even if you've opened the box and used the product.
That's the point: most brands only allow returns for unopened products, which for a supplement means no guarantee. We let you truly try it out.
Send the remaining sachets with packaging back and let us know via info@yupevitamins.com. The guarantee applies to your first order and can be used once per customer. Return shipping costs are at your expense.
Who pays for return shipping?
These are at your expense, unless we have made a mistake or your order arrived damaged. In that case, we will pay.
When will I get my money back?
Within 14 days after you have registered your return, and in practice within 7 days after your shipment has been received.
My order arrived damaged.
We're sorry to hear that. Please email a photo to info@yupevitamins.com, preferably within 48 hours, and we will send a replacement or refund your purchase, at our expense.
Something is missing from my box or bag.
Each sachet should contain four capsules and one softgel, and each box thirty sachets. If this is not the case, please email us with your order number and the batch number on the side of the sachet. We will then send it to you.
About Yupe
Who is behind Yupe?
Yupe started in the office.
We, Sem and Mike, saw firsthand how companies manage the well-being of their people: a fruit basket on Monday, a poster about vitality, perhaps a survey. Well-intentioned, but you don't feel anything from it. While the people who work there were in the bathroom in the morning with three half-empty jars and the question of which ones they actually needed.
That's where the gap was. Not in more choice, but in less. Five nutrients that most people are actually deficient in, in the most absorbable forms available, in doses that matter. One sachet per day. Open, take, done.
We have it made in Goes, in Zeeland, so we can drive there ourselves. And with every box we sell, four women and children benefit through Vitamin Angels. Wellbeing on the inside, impact on the outside.
Are you giving anything back?
For every box sold, through Vitamin Angels, we help four women and children in low-income countries receive essential vitamins and minerals. Not a percentage of profits that no one can verify. A concrete number, per box.
Is the packaging recyclable?
Partially, and we prefer to be honest about which part isn't.
The vitamin box is made from 100% recycled, FSC-certified material and can be recycled with paper waste.
The daily sachets are not yet. A sachet that keeps four capsules and a softgel dry, airtight, and dark for a year consists of multiple layers that cannot be separated. This protection is not a luxury: without these layers, the algae oil oxidizes and its quality deteriorates. We are monitoring developments and will switch as soon as a variant becomes available that protects the product just as well.
How can I get in touch?
Email info@yupevitamins.com or call +31 6 21933642 on weekdays between 09:00 and 17:00. You will receive a response within one working day, from someone who works at Yupe.
